Well this didn’t really turn out to be an inter forum ride as such, but with 11 bikes of various types lined up outside my house on a sunny Sunday morning I was rather pleased with the turn out.
Champs represented Bikers Cafe on his ZX6R, Ses310(CBR600) TT07 (Gixxer Thou) and myself represented TBF. Also along was my old mate Andy ‘Red Leader’ Miles on his BMW F800. He brought along two other old mates along; Terry (CBR600) and Alan (BMW GS). TT07’d Street Triple and Honda Super Four riding friends also joined us. Rounding off our team were Dave (1250 Bandit) and his mate Harry (Honda F6C).
11 bikes, just a few short of a MotoGP grid as Dave quipped. Though this collection of bikes would look pretty weird lined up to attack Donington Park! My neighbours were terribly impressed as we rolled out of my little cul-de-sac at 9am…
Ses310 tries out my Fazer for size, while Red Leader looks on seemingly deep in thought.
Alan’s BMW GS
Heavy metal boys: Dave’s 1250 Bandit and Harry’s Honda F6C
Terry’s CBR600, with Dave, Harry, Terry and Red leader muttering away in the back ground
GSXR1000, CBR600, ZX6R, BMW GS, F6C and 1250 Bandio!
The TT07 crew! With such a big turnout we kept things simple and headed for Crossgates in Powys(?) just over the border in Wales. A456 and A4117 through Cleobury and over Clee Hill, taking Leintwardine etc. good roads, though the spread of the 40 and 50 mph speed limits is getting very noticable. Speeds were pretty steady; I was running in my Fazer, and the CB Super Four rider had only recently passed his test and was riding in a large group for the first time. TT07 did a grand job sweeping at the back of the back, and even mizzle and damp roads on the last 10 miles or so didn’t spoil the fun too much
Red Leader’s BMW F800 at Crossgates with my Fazer in the back ground
The Acco old Boys, TT07 and I used to work there with thes guys too!
The group mixed well
TT07 and crew, we had already shuffled a couple of tables together, so they had a table to themselves
Customised Harley, with a airbrushed image of Muhammad Ali on the tank, dubbed the Ali DavidsonToggsy was out and about on his Fireblade too and called up to see where we were, but when he hit the damp roads he wisely turned towards the sun and we didn’t manage to hook up with him i the end. Hope you had a good ride bud!
After a much needed and highly enjoyable ‘Irish Salad’ (a FULL English…) we headed out and took in the A483 towards Newtown. A rather brilliant road, even at the relatively gentle-pace of todays’ ride. I was really getting into the Fazer, and performance, handling and comfort all seem top draw. Can’t wait until I have got it run in and can open the taps properly!
We stopped at the (packed) harry Tuffins at Churchstoke (A489) for cuppa and a natter.
Terry and Champs enjoy a cuppaFrom here the group gradually broke up as we headed back towards Kidderminster.
A great mornings riding in good company. Thanks to Red Leader for showing the way, TT07 for watching our backs and to all for good ride-out.
Just realised that I completely forgot to ask champs about progress on his Moped Racer…doh!
Here’s to the next run…

Will have another update for the Jammy Bodgers soon.

August 24, 2009 at 10:06 pm #59118TT07ParticipantYes a good run out for everyone I believe, Jason on the Honda Super Four said upon reaching Crossgates… “I’ll have to get a bigger bike if this is the kind of distance you lot do, and you call this a short run” (He only passed his test in June and is currently still feeling his feet somewhat) I believe steady but sure will win the day for him, after a few Sundays out with us lot he will be picking up some usefull riding tips that he wont get by riding alone and not venturing far from our town. I only took a few snaps………..
Ready for the off “Wish he’d hurry up with that camera then we can get on the road”
Last stop at Craven Arms. At this point we split into 2 groups, those heading home and those looking for one more stop at Quatford Cafe. “Wish he’d hurry up with that Camera then we can get home”It was good to meet up with Andy, Terry and Alan; as Radar said the five of us worked for the same cable manufacturing firm 10 years ago, we really should try to meet up more often. Also good to meet up with ses310 and Champs, not forgetting of course Dave and Harry both of whom I’d not met before. Radar PUSH us ALL to meet up again real SOON!
