    Drivers banned from Lakes routes
Motorcycles and 4×4 vehicles are to be banned from 30 routes in the Lake District to protect paths from erosion.
New legislation means that from next month the vehicles will no longer be able to use certain paths designated for walkers, cyclists and horse riders.

These will include so-called “green routes” at Garburn Pass and Walna Scar.

The Lake District National Park Authority (LDNPA) said there would still be 80 routes throughout the area that bikers and 4×4 drivers could use.

Most Lake District green roads are in the south and south-west areas of the National Park.

Trails adviser Dave Robinson for the LDNPA said: “We value the close working relationship we’ve built up with local users groups.

“We will continue to ensure the government legislation is introduced and monitored in a way that causes as little disruption and conflict as possible.”
