Driver jailed over foot in bumper
A driver who knocked down a motorcyclist and drove off with the victim’s foot embedded in his car bumper has been jailed for two months.
Peter Dearing, 23, sped off from the crash in Blackburn, Lancashire, leaving Richard Sholl screaming in agony.
Dearing, of Read, Burnley, rang police after finding the foot in the bumper of his car, Blackburn magistrates heard.
He admitted driving without due care and attention, failing to stop after an accident and driving without insurance.
Dearing, a law student, also admitted driving with faulty brakes and steering, and to driving illegally with a provisional licence, which he obtained following a previous disqualification.
The court heard Dearing had eight points on his provisional licence when he crashed into Mr Sholl, 37, last October.
On Friday he was jailed for two months, banned from driving for two years and ordered to pay £300 compensation.
The court heard that Mr Sholl was riding his Honda along Yew Tree Drive in Blackburn when Dearing’s grey Volvo estate veered into the outside lane and hit him.
When Dearing drove off, a motorist came to help Mr Sholl, who had to have his leg amputated.
In a statement to the court, Mr Sholl said: “My left foot is gone forever.
‘Heard screaming’
“I am going to be stuck like this through no fault of my own. I feel so frustrated.
“All this has happened because of a selfish, stupid, illegal driver who left me alone injured in the road.”
Sophie Lorimer, prosecuting, said: “Dearing must have known that this was a serious injury because he told a policeman he could hear the screaming.”
Paul Schofield, defending, admitted that Dearing had “a poor attitude to licences and insurance”.

Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, But rather to skid in sideways, chocolate in one hand, Vodka in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming…….WOO HOO, what a ride!

No sentence would bring this mans leg back, but two months!!

This is what I mean in the justice system, they are anti bikers! There should be a law about discrimination against bikers, Theres laws for gays and racial, what about bikers!

March 5, 2005 at 3:33 pm #23313GSX RatParticipantthe good news is that this guys picture was posted om another forum, and there’s a high concentration of bikers round there who are pretty pissed off about it. It’s pretty likely that before long he will himself be left bleeding in a road somewhere….

March 5, 2005 at 9:46 pm #23314speedy claireParticipantIn the same week I read of the above with the dickhead getting a petty 2 month prison sentence, I also read that a bloke got 2 months for killing a child whilst driving over the limit without a licence, insurance or tax in my local paper that a bloke got a 2 month prison sentence for stealing a mobile phone!!!!!!! there is no sense in the british legal system at all, i`ve never understood the sentencing and don`t think i ever will

March 6, 2005 at 2:36 pm #23315toggsyParticipantThe only justitce for that tosser would be for him to lose his licence for life and pay for the bikers needs for the rest of his.
A one off fine is stupid and only £300 is a down right insult, it’s not even that it’s pathetic, if I was the biker I’d stick that blokes 300 quid up where the sun don’t shine………Compensation that’s a bloody laugh!!!!!!!!!Justice……….. What Justice?[!]

To “ERR” is natural.. to really fowl things up needs a politician!!
March 6, 2005 at 8:10 pm #23317RadarModeratorThe biker was lucky he didn’t get done for crimminal damage to the car! This decison was utterly amazing…something needs to be done. Too much emphasis on speed cameras, not enough on real traffic policing and justice.
£60 for 36 in a 30, £300 for permanently maiming somebody – crazy.
