Enjoying the surprisingly mild November weather on the FZ1S today. Thumper came along on his GS1200 along with another three mates riding a BMW R1200, GS1200 DOHC and Duke Multistrada 1100. We just did a standard Crossgate loop with a few diversions, but it was great to be getting in some bonus winter miles.

What was interesting to me is the shift away recently from the dominance of Japanese sports-bikes/sports-tourers. A few years go the BMW rider would of been the odd one out in the pack, not the one on the Jap bike as it was today. This was backed up at the cafe at Crossgates where over half the bikes parked up were not Japanese. BMW and Triumph in particular seem to be doing well these days.

We had to be careful as the roads were slippy here and there. Also plenty of wet leaves were still on the ground too. We rounded off an enjoyable ride with a cuppa at Shobdon Airfeild where we had a taxiing light aircraft give way to us as we rolled up to the airfield cafe! The weather was so mild by now we could sit outside in the sun and watch the aircraft coming and going, the highlight being the arrival of a R22 helicopter that the pilot skillfully put down within spitting distance of a cuppa! Class!

You can’t beat winter bonus miles!!

I will add a few pics when my PC is running better

Does that make it a helicuppa? [:D] I’ll get me coat….

Do you reckon the Japanese will be one day mourning the loss of their motorcycle industry to the Europeans then?

I’ve been treated to a trip in an R22 before. Couldn’t believe how precise they can fly those things. Hovered less than 10 metres from my family so they could take pictures for a good while! (Will hunt down the photos)

Shame I missed the run. I got wet and muddy riding a mountain bike though Cannock Chase!

I doubt it, but they need to be less complacent and my beloved Yamaha in particular need to take care…their prices have gone crazy…my FZ1S is over £11000 new now.

Be interested to see those pics Champs. You did a miss a good run bud, but I have been enjoying some mountain biking this year too. Nothing too amazing mainly tootling along canal towpaths, but enjoyable none the less.

Should be out on the motorbikes again before the end of the year, be good if you could join us
