I had a superb day at the Cosford Airshow last weekend (10/06/2018). Commemorating 100 years of the RAF and 70 years of operations at Cosford. The Red Arrows impressive as ever, The Battle of Britain Memorial Flight are an amazing sight and a stunning array of fast jet displays by the likes of the F-16, Mig 29, Rafale and Typhoon pilots were exciting to watch. It was also amazing to see helicopters being chucked about too as well as wide range of aircraft ranging from biplanes to jet air liners!
There was a load of traffic on the way in and it was great to cruise past the majority of it on my Thundercat. One bloke in a van even got a bit aggressive yelling from his window 'why don't you queue like everybody else!?'
We also got to park close to the action than the cars! He would have been pleased to know that!
Mind you we were somewhat 'trumped' by the bloke who dodged the traffic by sweeping majestically in from the sky in a WW2 vintage P-47D Thunderbolt….there is cool and there is arriving in your own fighter cool…
There were some interesting bikes in the parking area too, but I will let the pictures do the talking from here:
My daughter left her 125 at home and joined me on the 600. Old frinds Andy (aka 'Thumper') and his Mrs joined us too. They came along by bike on their BMW GS1200 and dodged the traffic queues as well…
Some interesting bits and bobs in the bike park…
Impressive guardians for our bikes…Jaguar jets. No longer flown by the RAF these beauties are used in the technical instruction of engineering personnel
Even some bikes dotted about in the static displays
Our full team for the day….Andy even managed to pack deckchairs onto his GS1200!
Interesting take on the cup holder theme..
Returning with vital supplies…it was a hot day!But the real reason we were here was to see the aircraft…
Harrier
Hawk as flown by the Red Arrows
Gulf war veterans…Tornado, Jaguar and Buccaneer
Cold war interceptors… Lightning, Phantom and Tornado
WW2 legend…the Lancaster…well some of one! Oh and that is a model of the bomb used in the Dams raids in May 1943
Mustang in RAF markings rather than the more usual USAAF silver and black
BBMF Lancaster and C47 Dakota
The Red Arrows…say no more….Great day out…..make sure you go at least once!
