Arrogant biker David Saxby laughed when cops caught him doing 139mph – but he failed to see the funny side yesterday as a judge jailed him for a year.
Dad-of-two Saxby, 40, was filmed overtaking a friend on the brow of a hill by a police officer who was following on an unmarked motorbike.
As he was arrested he laughed and told PC David Smith: “Catch some real criminals.”
Judge Roger Thorn QC jailed him for 12 months, saying: “I have to make an example of you. This was shocking and dangerous riding.
“You gambled with your own life and gambled with the lives of anyone else out that day. Had there been an accident there would almost certainly been a fatality.” Saxby’s 139mph on the A166 in Driffield, East Yorks, was one of the highest speeds recorded by Humberside police.
Pc Smith used a miniature camera on his wing mirror to film Saxby on a 165mph Yamaha R6 as he sped along behind pal Nicholas King, 35.

The policeman told Hull crown court he had trouble keeping up, even thought he was riding a 200mph Suzuki GSXR 1300 Hayabusa.
He added: “I was riding the world’s fastest road bike and pushing it hard. I did my best to keep pace. One bike overtook the other. They appeared to be racing.”
King and Saxby, both of Hull, had already admitted speeding but denied dangerous driving.
Saxby told the jury he was more qualified to ride than PC Smith, an advanced driver and qualified instructor, because he had been doing it since he was 12.
But he was found guilty, although King was cleared. Saxby was disqualified from driving.
