Some fantastic performances from cars like the Ariel Atom, Caterham 260, Ford GT and BMW M5 V10.
But the lot were beaten by a vehicle costing a mere £9000 new.
MINE!
Yup, the GSXR1000 won in just over 10 seconds, for 0-100-0.
It would have been quicker but for time wasted changing into second, as first gear ‘only’ does 98mph !!!(Maybe I should get Niall McKenzie to do it on my bike. Since it has had a full Akrapovic exhaust system, race air filter and re-map, it revs higher than standard by about 500rpm. This would ensure just the one gear was needed.

Take it easy out there
June 30, 2005 at 6:28 pm #28846imperialdataKeymasterInteresting to know, were they still biased towards the cars? Almost makes a bike seem safer than a car when you consider how short a time it takes to brake from 100mph. And you don’t get hit in the back of the head by your briefcase!
Is there space in the Ariel for a briefcase?
June 30, 2005 at 7:57 pm #28847GSXR1000ParticipantThey only had the one bike as a comparison, but they chose the best one for the job.
In fairness, the bike was only feet ahead of the Ariel and some cars out-braked the bike easily.
The strange thing was that it was the 60-100 where the bike killed the cars where as I would have expected the 0-60 to be the big gain for the 2-wheeler.It seems that traction from a stand is better with 4 wheels and braking sees the same advantage.
Overall, only the Ultima 640 is quicker (not in this test) than the GSXR 0-100-0, but it is not by much and £6000 spent (still only £15K overall) on a longer swing-arm, a turbocharger and uprated brakes would see the bike win.
June 30, 2005 at 7:59 pm #28848GSXR1000ParticipantThe Yamaha R1, 2005, if ridden by Niall McKenzie again, would have done pretty much what the Suzuki did. They are damn close, although the GSXR1000 has a slightly better power to weight ratio.
June 30, 2005 at 8:00 pm #28849imperialdataKeymasterWhat does the longer swing arm give?
July 1, 2005 at 7:24 am #28850RadarModeratorThe Gixe dod 0-100 in 5.62sec! Can you imagime if it could hit 100mph in 1st?!! The mag was still predictably car bias.

Less chance of the front wheel lifting under full acceleration. More traction.
