No this isn’t a thread about that awful show on men and motors!
I’m talking about the “all the kit all the time” debate
-IS- it Okays to ride without full kit on? a.k.a jeans with a t-shirt and no gloves?
Or do you think that no matter what the weather, no matter what the excuse, if you don’t have all the gear you should not ride. A.k.a full leathers/textiles all of the time?
I personally, would ride with the kit on, and if it were hot I would simply zip my jacket down half way to get a breeze around my body.
I’ve not had any luck finding boots to fit me (or trousers)… so I have to wear big leather reinforced with rubber doc-martins (if I could find a cheap pair of boots I would get some… but sadly I can’t)Discuss! I’d like to know how you folks feel about this.
June 5, 2006 at 2:09 pm #49233GixParticipantIts only legal to wear helmet, the rest as far as I am concerned is up to individual. Personally I never go out without full gear, but would never berate someone for wearing jeans/normal jacket. Its when it gets stupid (no top, shorts and flip flops) that annoys me.
June 5, 2006 at 4:08 pm #49234LeviathanRanParticipantI agree with you there…. who the f**k wears flip flops on a 150bhp rocket?
I wear a textile jacket and two pairs of Denim jeans with knee pads on (armour taken from old pair of bike kegs that are too small for me) Gloves, and of course ym trust thick boots!
but riding with a T-shirt…. shorts? that’s just… plain f**king stupid if you ask me.
June 5, 2006 at 4:09 pm #49235GSX RatParticipantmaybe 60% of the time i wear jeans, 35% cammo trousers and 5% a pair of leather trousers.
Nearly always wear a leather jacket, although half the time its undone and flapping in the breeze (so might as well not have it on as your chest would soon be scrubbed bare.
Wear either dm’s or sidi boots and nearly always wear gloves (unless in out on the 125 or cub on and off the field which is a bit stupid really but…)As for the helmet, if you fancy a ride without one (and it is a nice feeling, youve got to at least try it once) pick a quiet road somewhere and if you do get spotted by a copper and your taking it easy half the time they leave you alone, sometimes they pull you over and tell you to put it on, and you get the occasional nobhead who tickets you (its non endorsable so you only get a fine, no points)
Round here, they mainly turn a blind eye – too busy nicking power rangers with small number plates, load exhausts and a throttle that seems to be stuck back at the stopJune 5, 2006 at 5:38 pm #49236LeviathanRanParticipantquote:

[][] hehehehe
June 5, 2006 at 9:56 pm #49239RadarModeratorFor my part I normally wear a protective jacket, gloves and boots in addition to the crash helmet. I don’t have any leather jeans to wear, but accept that I am taking a risk sticking with Denims or combat trousers.
June 5, 2006 at 10:10 pm #49240katanaParticipantI normally have on my kevlar underpants and a string vest – but wear leathers when I’m on the bike.
June 5, 2006 at 10:11 pm #49241RadarModeratorI reckon those power ranger bikes are Suzuki RFs of some description

Yeah they definately look like they are built round the RF
June 5, 2006 at 11:15 pm #49243LeviathanRanParticipantTrue bike fans here!
THE Power rangers are suzuki riders that means suzuki make all the robots as well surely? hehJune 7, 2006 at 3:43 pm #49244barmy_carmyParticipantI always wear all the kit, which was probably just as well! I’ve tested Akito Jackets by coming off at 60mph, and not a single tear or rip![}][:p] Had me boots and leather jeans and helmet was well protected….otherwise I wouldn’t be talking to you today![]
When I first started bikiking it was the days of no helmets, and when law came to pass on helmets I was out there protesting with hundreds of other bikers, used to make me feel claustrophobic wearing a helmet….but as time went on I lost quite a few biker mates with no helmets, but then we didn’t have the braking back then, not like today. But this day and age with so much traffic about it would be safer to wear a helmet[][^]June 7, 2006 at 6:36 pm #49245sidParticipanteach to theyre own
June 7, 2006 at 7:37 pm #49246GSX RatParticipantif they brought in a choice re helmets,i wouldnt wear one round town or in the country – motorway use etc i probably would…
same way as i never wear a seatbelt in a car i suppose….
yeah, i’ve heard all the arguments, and got ticketed for it but when you start arguing with the coppers that its my life, and my choice they have no reply except the standard police speak bullshit.
I personally have found, that the seatbelt law is enforced more rigidly than the helmet law…. - AuthorPosts
