Hi there,
My names Phil and Ive just stumbled across the forums here so I thought I would register and see whats going on!
Im currently learning to ride and have my first bike, the ER5, all ready to go in my garden. Its not much to look at nor will it be the fastest machine, but I think it should do me well to get my first experience of two wheels!
It cost me £400 and has recently just gone through the MOT needing only the chain and sprockets as well as a wheel bearing. Not bad for a 55,000 mile machine I dont think.
Its stood for a long time, and with my test coming up I am soon hoping to put some mileage on it! I am currently working on polishing up the forks as they have corroded a bit (ok a lot! [])
I will sign off for now, and pop up a couple of pictures for you to have a look at!
As bought:
As it is now
Cheers
Phil

its only been a basic spit and polish job, and replace that “interesting” fairing with the original light gear! All i had to buy was the mirrors and they were only about £25

October 22, 2006 at 12:42 pm #51777Phil_ER5Participantthanks for the concouragment and kind words people!
I first saw the bike when it had been parked up in a garage for six months or more after the owner had upgraded to a honda blackbird and it was only by chance that I discovered it was up for sale.
Hopefully i will pass this coming test date (3rd Nov) and then I will be able to go out and enjoy it!
then again – i said the same thing for my first test []
laters!

October 22, 2006 at 5:27 pm #51779imperialdataKeymasterThat fairing had to go, looks pretty good without too. Bit of matt black on the downpipes next I’d say.
Welcome aboard, good luck for the test.
October 23, 2006 at 7:45 pm #51780ScouserParticipantWelcome Phil and good luck for the test. Use the matt black high temp paint for the downpipes, around £10 from a decent bike shop or £1000000000000 from Halfrauds.
PS did you know that you have a large African Goliath snail in your garden?

The ER looks fab now.. a good job well done! It’ll do you well for getting used to riding when you pass. Whereabouts in the country are you?October 24, 2006 at 5:54 pm #51783Phil_ER5ParticipantNorth wales my mate
November 5, 2006 at 9:07 pm #51784Phil_ER5ParticipantWell, I passed, and I have been out enjoying him.
Sadly I managed to not put the sidestand down properly and it fell over! the fantastic side of this was that the ER seems to be an emminently tough bike. The damage was limited to a scratched bar end, snapped clutch lever, a broken indicator and a scuff on my mirrors. No paint work damaged, no dents, and no plastics broken!
The other issue i had was travelling along the local bypass, my speedo decided to die. Got home and it appears the cable has snapped so its an easy fix
All in, It should cost me no much more than £25 to fix all the problems it has
cheers
November 5, 2006 at 10:16 pm #51785GixParticipantWehey! Congratulations on the pass!!! []
