2005 MotoGP launch in London
Just a week before the start of the 2005 MotoGP World Championship, the season presentation press conference was held yesterday at the Dominion Theatre in London.
The presentation, attended by British riders Shane Byrne (Team Roberts), James Ellison (Blata WCM), Chaz Davies (Aprilia Germany, 250cc) and Suzuki’s John Hopkins, brought good news for the British fans.
The BBC announced increased coverage of MotoGP on BBC Television. In addition to full coverage of every race on BBC TWO, additional time has been allocated in the schedules to allow for increased build-up and features around the races themselves.
For the first two races of the season, at Jerez and Estoril, the BBC will also have extended coverage and pre-race build-up on BBCi – the BBC’s interactive service available to digital viewers.
Speaking about the 2005 season, Philip Bernie, Executive Editor, Grandstand said: “We’re pleased that in our third year of broadcasting the MotoGP we’re able to once again build on the previous year’s success.”
BBC Sport also announced that Gavin Emmett will join the BBC MotoGP team for the 2005 MotoGP Championship.
Emmett, who has previously worked on the world feed of MotoGP coverage, will join presenter Suzi Perry, and the commentary team of Steve Parrish and Charlie Cox, for BBC coverage of all 17 rounds in 2005.
“The addition of Gavin Emmett in the pit-lane and the additional features will help us further in communicating the thrill, excitement and expertise of MotoGP to BBC viewers,” added Bernie.
BBC coverage begins with a MotoGP preview on Sunday Grandstand (3 April, BBC TWO, 1.35pm), followed by live coverage of the first round at Jerez on 10 April (BBC TWO, 12.35pm).

Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, But rather to skid in sideways, chocolate in one hand, Vodka in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming…….WOO HOO, what a ride!
