Just wondering as I have been watching “Trevor McDonald Tonight” programme on dangerous A roads.
Seems that road markings at dangeous junctions cab save lives from as little as £10,000.
A proper safe crossing for pedastrians can be had for £75,000.
I have always said that proper road DESIGN and ENGINEERING can do far more to save lives than speed cameras set up to callously collect revenue from already heavily taxed bikers and other road users.
1 life lost on the road costs the country £1,000,000 apperently. This ignores the cost in Human terms, which can’t be calculated. However, that money represents a lot of re-engineered junctions, crossings and roadmarkings. Crucially it would contribute to a huge reduction in misery for all the families that get wrapped up these tradegys.
Rather than campaign for ever more useless cameras, lets campaign for decent road surfaces, properly marked junctions, ample early warning signs and education programmes. Something that would make a real difference to the everyday biker, other road users and pedestrians.
