New British junior cup announced

Dorna Sports, rights holders to the MotoGP World Championship, have linked up with the Autocycle Union (ACU Motorcycling GB) and the Motorcycle Circuit Racing Control Board of Great Britain (MCRCB) to launch a new junior cup designed at unveiling fresh British racing talent.

Running within the 125cc British Championship and complying with exactly the same technical regulations, all 14 to 16 year old riders who enter the series will automatically be entered into the ACU Academy Cup, with points awarded for both championships.

The rider judged by Dorna, MCRCB and the ACU Academy to have the most potential, taking into consideration the state of tune of their race bike and team support they have been given, will be offered a special prize, to be announced on the 17th February at Mallory Park.

Whilst the overall goal of the Cup is to find the best riders, it has another equally important role – to make available free technical advice and rider development assistance and open the doors to the full ACU Academy training programme. Over the entire series, at every round, from set up to race day, the ACU Academy and its team of professional coaches will be on hand to give help, advice and assistance to any Cup rider who wants it.

The help for Cup riders who want it will start on 17th February at Mallory Park, where the Academy will have a meet and greet/test day, all free of charge. Full details will be sent to all riders who have registered for the Cup by the end of January.

Race assistance will begin the week before each race, when the ACU Academy will e-mail registered Cup riders with a track guide and a gearing overview.

At the track, the Academy will have its own awning in the paddock where Academy Cup Coaches, Nigel Bosworth and Shaun Brown, will be on hand to help out. Also in the awning will be data-logging specialists who will be on hand to work with riders on set up and data analysis. Suspension advice will also be on hand so that any Cup rider will be able to access everything that they need to go faster.

Between races, the ACU Academy will also be inviting riders to attend a series of training days. These will include diet and fitness training at the Sport England Training Centre at Lilleshall, working with Academy Sports Psychologist Ashley Scott, and learning the art of working with the media.
