I want to lower the gearing on my Husqvarna. Is it best to go bigger (by 3) at rear or smaller (by 1) at front?
I would say one tooth lower at front, as there will be a small weight reduction, but what says you?March 18, 2004 at 12:18 pm #18235AnonymousInactiveI always prefer to take the front sprocket down if possible. At the end of the day though, if one is more worn than the other then that helps me to decide as well.
What weight reduction do you mean – the sprocket? If so that’s really not a huge saving. You could empty the change from your pockets before you ride and get a similar saving in weight!!
I’ve donated to the forum, have you?March 18, 2004 at 1:15 pm #18236NSXParticipantWith this bike, every little extra counts !
I have shaved it down to 112kgs (dry) so far.
The weight of a smaller sprocket and therefore also a chain with a link less, is only small, but then it is ‘driven’ weight, so absorbs a fraction less power, also.
I run it on ‘Super Unleaded’ also, as it works better with the new (very high) compression, again helping the power.I always ride in 2-piece leathers and keep my body weight down to what it was when I was 25, 21 years ago.
Every little counts!
