Well after nearly three years of ownership I have finally got around to making a proper start on the RD rebuild. Spent a Saturday afternoon stripping off the fairing. It has a multitude of cracks and broken mounting lugs, so it will be going off to be repaired and resprayed
Doesn’t look too bad, but the fairing is quite a bad state close up
This huge hole around the mirror being typical
It didn’t take too long to wip off the fairing, the towel is there to protect the mudguard from scratches
Bikes certainly expand when you take them to bits!
Taken on a bit of Streetfighter look nowI have been recommended a faring repair/spray shop in Malvern, so I will give them a ring and get a quote. Going to keep the colours standard

October 8, 2014 at 10:36 pm #68240RadarModeratorNo major engine work. Key activity will be repairs to the fairing. The engine will get a service and I will get the powervalves checked over and set up properly
Once this is done I hope to get a few more miles on it next summer. Then see how much further I want the resto to go

Will do Kat! Cheers
October 12, 2014 at 4:47 pm #68243RadarModeratorDid a little bit today: Took of the rear body work and side panels. Took off the seat look/helmet lock and cleaned that up.
Now looking very naked
The very crusty seat latch
Now looking much betterWith Katana’s help I also searched out some alternatives for the fairings.
Now toying with the idea of Kenny Roberts colours on a new fairing kit from this place

or this place

Tucked back into the corner to await the next session of workOctober 13, 2014 at 9:06 am #68244imperialdataKeymasterWill you be re-painting or powder coating the frame?

I wont be no, as it is a good state.
Thinking about it that means the Yellow and Black Kenny Roberts colours are out
October 13, 2014 at 6:42 pm #68246RadarModeratorGoing to check this place out pretty local to me
December 12, 2014 at 8:51 pm #68247RadarModeratorLatest development: New starter where I work is a wizz with plastics and paintwork, so we are thrashing out a deal…watch this space…
January 18, 2015 at 10:01 am #68248ses310ModeratorThat’ll be pretty handy then
January 18, 2015 at 5:46 pm #68249RadarModeratorHe is just setting up his work shop at the moment, so I am hoping to make some sort of progress soon
I was oot in the garage today and it is biting cold in there…doesn’t encourage progress on the bikes!
March 2, 2015 at 8:53 pm #68250ses310ModeratorLeave it till the summer and we can have a tinker, or buy a big ass heater
March 15, 2015 at 12:35 am #68251RadarModeratorBought a full set of second hand fairings, will still need to be re-painted but seem in a better state than the ones that I have
March 15, 2015 at 2:07 pm #68252katanaParticipantHopefully with genuine plastics you won’t have to do too much adjusting to get them to fit. Give me a shout if you need a hand.
