Collector’s cars are movie stars

It’s been nearly 40 years since New Yorker Gino Lucci drove his first car to a film set. Hundreds of movies and TV shows later, he’s showing no signs of slowing down.
The company he started back in 1974, Picture Cars East, supplies and adapts vehicles from all over the world to suit film-makers’ needs – mainly in the New York City area.
He’s given specialist driving lessons to actresses Nicole Kidman and Anne Hathaway, among others, and helped some of the world’s great directors match the star, with the right car.
He became obsessed with cars as a young boy, but his transition from mechanic to the movies, happened by chance. He’s lost count of the number of vehicles that he’s bought, and often seen destroyed on film sets – and he’s even owned his own racing team.
The BBC caught up with him at his main garage in Brooklyn, where iconic yellow cabs nestle close to Model-T Fords and film-makers’ four-wheeled dreams come true.
