A few people have stuck V12 Rolls Royce ‘Merlin’ engines in a variety of cars, even a SD1 Rover. However most were not Merlin engines, but the unsupercahrged variant, still a V12 and 27 litres, called the Meteor built mainly by Austin at their Longbridge factory. These were used in a variety of tanks over the years.

It is rare for the full monty supercharged Merlin to find its way into a car. Not 3000 hp though, a mere 1200-2,200  depending on the variant

This Chevy seems to painted up as a tribut to a P-51 fighter that was fitted with the licence built version of the Merlin, built by an American car company called Packard.

Bit of a shame. Wasting a good engine like that :(

I saw the original maroon one at Santa Pod – looked tatty and it coughed and spluttered, not all that quick, either. I love the idea though and I’m full of admiration for that dedicated work.

Some engineering was a little rustic tis true. I wouldn’t want to go terribly quick in them, the aerodymnamics would be interesting to say the least!

The Chevy looked well done though. Its just a fun thingto do if you loads of time and money on your hands!

at the end of the day it isnt going to be overly quick anyway. bigger engine equals bigger weight. and its unlikely you could fit a heavier engine into a car than a plane engine. they were quick enough back in the day to keep jerry at bay.

Other people’s strange-but-fun projects add some spice to the world. Hats-off to petrolhead enthusiasm! Good job we don’t all drive Micras, etc..

Hang on, how about a Merlin engined Micra?

Here is a Nissan Micra body over a Lotus Excel chassis, I have seen this car in the flesh and it is well done
