I was talking to a expert in such matters the other day and he had serious doubts about the viability of electric bikes.

I think if people expect them to be comparable with our current road bikes then yes, they are no way going to be as good but if we look at motorcycles over the last 100yrs then it is only imo the last 20 where they have become such fantastic performing beasts. Electric bikes have the advantage of chassis/suspension/brakes that are top notch already so it is just the powerplant, endurance and charge times that need working on [:)]

Energy density and getting rid of the high temps generated are the challenge I think.

Given a bit of time and the chance of development will see the bikes become certainly viable as commuter bikes/city bikes. As long as they can be charged off your mains at home over night and have a fast charge option for charging stations when you are on a longer run

We have some electric cars kicking around at work, but I have not blagged a go yet. I have been a passenger in a Nissan Leaf…that was almost errie it was so quiet. Expensive too.

the cost def needs to come down some for them to be viable to the masses
