Well if you guys read Radars thread about the evening out to a local bike meet you will have seen I have been having gearbox issues.
To start with it kept giving false neutrals in 4th, then started jumping from 4th to 3rd under partial throttle. Then decided it didn’t like 4th very much so decided not to bother even going into it!
After much reading around on the internet I decided to replace the whole gearbox or engine.
After what felt like calling every motorcycle breakers in the country I found one that had a gearbox and wanted £250 +vat +postage which I didn’t think seemed too bad.
I then randomly came across a guys number that builds race bikes and preps bike engines for kit cars and he said he had a brand new gearbox that had been taken out of a new bike when it was turned into a race bike. I have managed to get it for £275 delivered which I think is pretty much a bargain!
Taking the bike over to a friends tomorrow night and he is going to put the new gearbox in for me so fingers crossed I will be back on the road very soon with all 6 gears!
Radar you will have to try again once done as it wasn’t at its best when you rode it.
Will keep you posted on the progress.

Glad you managed to find one – That sounds like a good deal.

Are you going to rebuild your old gearbox to sell and get back some of the cost?

Well the guy I have had the gearbox off said he would buy the good bits back off me as he has a few spares and with my bits could possibly make a whole one again.
Will see whats up with mine when its out

Good luck Ses, I think part exchanging your old box or bits would be sensible if you don’t fancy messing about. Gearboxes can really be a ball-ache and time consuming.

That seems a good deal. Any progress?

None as yet, have got the gearbox. A friend of mine is supposed to be doing it for me but seems to be dragging his feet so its still sat in the garage.
The other option I have is to take the engine out myself and there is the head mechanic at a Kawasaki dealer that will fit the box for £80. Not sure if I fancy taking the engine out myself though.

Ok let me know then. I am hoping my mate will decide to do it by then but if not will start taking it out.

Well the engine is now out :)
Many thanks to Radar for the help.
Honda do not like to make things easy!
Now to get the engine off to the guy thats fitting the gearbox then the joys of putting it all back together!

shame none of you lads live in my neck of the woods, have a fully prepped workshop here but f@ck all to do in it:P

by the way that sounds like selector fork/shaft problems not the actual gearbox, but we shall see when its back together.

It is a shame, a fully kitted workshop would be very useful!
Everything is being changed, all gears, shafts and selector forks
