Hello all. I’m a new member but have been biking for many years. I’m looking at swapping my 10 year old GSX750F (had it since new) for a GSXR1000 and was looking for general feedback on owning one.
I took one on a test ride today and fell in love with it – who wouldn’t?! All the reviews say how fast they are (yep, can vouch for that) and how well they handle (check on that one too). Comfort is a personal thing and I found it perfectly comfortable for an hours riding.
But is there anything else the reviews don’t tell you?
I ride my GSXF in all weathers (except snow and ice!) and would plan to ride this gixer the same.
Also, has anyone done much touring on one? I’d like to do a europe trip this year (maybe next) but it’s not really the sort of bike you hear about people touring on – for probably obvious reasons. I’m not old enough for a full on tourer yet [:)]
    Many thanks in advance

    Welcome to the forum.

This article is by forum member TT07 who runs a k7 and loves it.

The Jap stuff section also carries articles about a 09 GSXR750 ran by another forum regular Pete247, he track prepped and loved it.

I have toured Europe with a group of lads on R1s, Blades etc (no Gixxer) but they are perfectly capable for long distance. Check out the touring articles in Biking Abroad section

This link will help you to find these articles (and many others!)

My only reservation with the GSXR would be your plan to ride all year. Could you keep the 750 to do that work?

Well as far as touring on a GSXR1000 goes, as you have tried one you will realise its not exactly a small bike like an R1 feels. I was very suprised last year to read a report from possibly from The Sun classing it as tourer of the year! To date I have travelled a lowly 320 miles max in one day/ 720 in 3 days and found my K7 excellent and without any cramps, and regularly get low 50’s MPG.

mine was a k7 too Radar.

What year you thinking about getting Leeroy?

In my opinion the k5/k6 GSX-R 1000 was the best, if you are buying new then it may be worth waiting for the next model 1000 as the laest 600 and 750 are meant to be awesome and if Suzuki apply that formula to the next 1000 then it will be an animal! :D

As far as touring goes I’d imagine if you are comfey on it then any year will be fine, I was happy to sit on my k7 750 all day long scratching or munching motorways to Scotland and Cornwall!

    Thanks for your advice guys.

Radar, I had considered keeping the GSXF but the trade in helps to reduce the cost that little bit.

Pete, it’s a 2010 model and is the last in the showroom. It’s at the old VAT rate so has £2k off what the price will be and is cheaper than the new model gixer 750 they have! Apparently, the only change for the thou this year is going to be colour. I guess Suzuki spent all their R&D budget on the new 750 [:)]

Well, that’s my mind made up. I’m off to buy a bike [:D]

    Be safe everyone.

Well good luck with your new baby, let us know how you get on with her, just a little running in period and then the big grins will start!

TT – the gixer6 I took out had the rev warning lights set up for the running in period and that started flashign at around 8k revs. The gixer thou on the other hand seems to go like a really fast rocket from whatever revs, so I reckon there’ll be big grins at first anyway. And then once run in, those grins will probably turn into more of a rictous grin (due to fear) [:D]

Pete – yeh, will do. It’s all black and when my 3 year son saw it, he asked “is that batmans bike Daddy?” LOL

Just wait for the needle to hit 9.5k, then wait for your brain to catch up, before the limiter kicks in!
