It was good to watch the bikes coming in, each rider donating £5 to the teenage cancer research charity. Despite rain starting to fall the atmosphere was good. Champs on his ZX6R had joined us by now too. About 11.30 all 1,000+ bikes, trikes, scooters and quads fired up at once and began to form up for the ride over to Stourport. I never been involved in such a large group and it was both exciting and mildly intimadating as you didn’t want to make a tit of yourself with so many of your peers around you!
The ride route was pretty convuluted and on one section a bike and car did have a coming together which was a bit of heartstopper. A guy in a car went storming past the line of bikes, but one wondered into his lane…despite the car giving a good bump on the back the biker styed upright and avoided hitting anybody else. All a bit hair-raising!
As the convoy continued a mix of marshalls (from MAG?) and Police halted the traffic at island and major junctions..very cool.
All the way along the route people came out their houses to wave and cheer us on…a good feeling. I was particularly touched by one old boy who had got the end of his drive-way using his zimmer frame to wave at us. Young kids were wide-eyed too; and ‘high-fived’ with a few as we trickled past. Brillinat stuff!
The crowds built up as we got closer to Stourport itself and eventually as we wound through local housing estates, the pavements were packed.
The destination was the Old Beams pub and the adjacent local sports centre that offered plenty of hard standing for all the bikes. The variety of machines was amazing.
There was live music and food-wagons too…luckily I found one selling ‘light-salads’ so I was happy.
Here Luckyrookie joined us as we checked out all the bikes.
Good to see a few forum members meeting up for the first time too
All in a brilliant event, well organised…so well done to all concerned!
A few pics:
At Hopwood Ses310’s Bandit, my Fazer and Kat’s Blade
LOADS of trikes were out and about, some home builds like this one
and some big bucks conversion to factory standards
Zillions of Harleys
Quite a few side-car combos out too including this strikingly finished unusually based on a Honda maxi-scooter
Plenty of Jap classics too, this was probably the tidiest of several FJ1100 and 1200s on the run
Oddly this Japanese XV750SE sported colours more suitable for a Harley
Number plate says it all really
This furry fellow led te run on his colourful and wonderfully noisy trike
The original Motley Crew…Champs, Katana & max, Matt and my daughter
The rain didn’t seem to affect the numbers too badly and it stopped for the run itself
Biles streaming into Stouport…we had arrived and parked up, but the bikes kept coming and coming!
Loving the Ariel Leader
My Fazer and Ses310’s Bandit in the somewhat overgrown extra car-park
Still pouring in!
This shot typifies the variety on show…custom to superbike
The Old Beams was doing well! the crowd was doing was being entertained for free by a live Rock band
Champs and Katana enjoyed the pig roast while I kept to my usual light salad…
Lucky Rookie had joined us by this stage
This pair of early slabbie GSXR750 were behind me in the convoy. Rare to see them in such near standard trim these days
Neat FZS600 based Fighter
They tow the battery in a liitle trailer…
Immaculate RD400…my personal favourite
Note the reg plate…
Lurid but lovely R6 Rossi limited edition
Very cool 1940’s esque HD
