I’m having ANOTHER dilema about the GSX-R’s replacement! lol

A mate has just got himself an RGV250 track bike which got me thinking about RG125 Gammas….

    https://search.autotrader.co.uk/es-uk/www/bikes/SUZUKI%20RG/Ne-2-4-7-8-27-64-104-133-146-236,N-239-4294891596-4294967208/advert.action?R=200928337738285&distance=43&postcode=RH10%205NF&channel=BIKES&make=SUZUKI&model=RG&min_pr=&max_pr=&max_mileage=&vehicleYearOfManufacture=1994&vehicleRegLetter=M

but its rather expensive for a 15yr old 125 lol and its in far too good condition to turn into a track bike.

this one is a bit cheaper tho:

Then Jake said why don’t I get an RGV250 as well as him, and I couldn’t really find a decent excuse not to [:D] so found this on ebay:

    https://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=190331285223&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT

which is quite cool but track only as it runs a total loss electrics system.

This one looks pretty spot on tho and a possible bargain:

But I’d still really like to try a supermoto [:o)]

I think the 125 would be fun but I’d get bored of it quite quickly possibly, the RGV would be ace but they go pretty quick so doesn’t solve the problem I have with my right wrist on the road lol [:p]

But if I got an RGV cheap enough I could then possibly get a secondhand supermoto as well and still spend less than if I got a brand new one and no RGV, am going to look at the 640 KTM tomoz lunch time, seeing as its tomoz so not much chance of it being sold before I get there here is a sneaky pic:

As former 2-stroke addict (5 RD Yams and KH over the years) I don’t think you can beat the buzz they give, even with a big four-stroke. I would go for the RGV250 over the 125, you will have so much fun. The son of a friend of mine ran a 95 RGV a few years back before going onto own a R1. He loved theat RGV, but the powervalve mechaism crumbled, so watch for that.

I briefly spoke to the guy at work who runs a 640 KTM and he loves it, was going to get some more details from him on how rides, things to look for etc, but I have been really busy. Good luck with the viewing.

Overall, I would go for the RGV250 but be prepared for some repair bills!

yeah had heard that the power valve was problematic, will update how I get on with the 640, don’t think its for me tho. Gonna maybe see about a 2ndhand Husky SM510R, if I do tho and get the RGV as well I’m gonna be forever changing oil and maintaining bikes lol, god what am I letting myself in for! Hahahahaha :D

What is it about the 640 you are unsure about? I find the KTM range a little confusing tbh; where does the 640 sit in the pecking order?

I believe those Huskys are the real deal…

Buy both the Husky and RGV!!

the 640 is really a road bike, its far heavier than a “proper” moto and considering its cc’s it is underpowered. The competition motos have around the same bhp/torque etc but weigh about 40kgs less so are proper nippy. Even a 450SM will out perform the 640 except on top speed, the Husky 510 (501cc) is meant to be quite a giggle, but being comp spec needs the same level of servicing as my 250 KTM (20hr oil changes or for each trackday/dirt use) and also the 2ndhand ones are generally pre BMW taking Husky over so have some QC issues and do rattle themselves to bits if you don’t check them over regularily.
I’m pretty ok with a high maintenance single 4T as I really enjoy doing the maint on my KTM 250, and the bits I can’t do only cost around £30 through a proper dealership so its not gonna break the bank there either.
The 640 has iirc a 3000mile service interval

I like your thinking, I can’t justify it if I look at it on a practicality basis but stuff that, bikes are about going with your heart not your head! :D

Well that wasn’t what I was expecting!

The KTM 640 was just as pretty in the flesh as the ad suggested, but the supprising thing was just how bonkers it is, if thats the one not to go for I can’t imagine what the 625/660 would be like! LOL totally nuts, wheelies everywhere and the weight allthough I was aware it wasn’t quite as flickable as my 250 EXC was fine and not an issue. The 640 is the ultimate town bike, totally anhialates traffic! [:D] its bars are pretty wide tho so you have to be careful cutting through traffic but it took it all in its stride.

And Hahahahahhahahahahahahahah to the Akros fitted to it, god knows what it’d be like with the baffles out, spect my ears would bleed LOL.

Have told the chap that if I win the RGV250 on ebay I’ll buy the 640 off him. If I don’t I’ll look into getting a Husky SM510R [:)]

When I sold my 625SXC I missed it like hell. As you say, in town, overtaking traffic is an absolute pleasure. The more waving fists the better…. As for the tyre wear it’s 50% better than most bikes as the front wheel never touches the floor.
The only criticism I had was that the gearing was a bit low on mine but I think the previous owner may have changed the gearbox sprocket.
    Go for it Pete!

think the gearing on this one was low too, he reckons its good for 106mph tho so it should be ok :D

well I missed the Telefonica RGV auction by 3sec as got back late from viewing a hous. It went for £780 in the end so I could have got it a lot less than I was prepared to pay if I’d gotten online in time :( not to worry tho, gonna try and look at one I’ve seen on biketrader during the week if the chap gets back to me. Have struck a deal on the 640 too and going to collect it later this eve! [:D]
