After my brakes failing on Pikey III and catching fire I was in desperate need of some new wheels to get me and all my kit upto Faslane in a hurry. This was not as easy as I’d hoped due to 99% of the vans for sale privately not having road tax and I didn’t have an insurance cert to get it myself so I had to buy off a trader. Then pretty much every van I looked into had either been sold or got sold just before I arrived to view.
I was getting desperate and found a van available, it was more than I wanted to pay, was older and as I found out when I got there had over double the milage of Pikey I (which blew up!!) It looks like a dog, has an incredably noisey rear dif, no stereo and most of the doors only lock/unlock from the inside.
It has nearly 1/4 of a million miles on the clock and the front bumper is held on with gaffa-tape but its a good size, LWB/medium roof and seems to start first time no probs. It only has a short MoT so am gonna have to get shot of it as soon as I get back from sea, will hopefully trade it in for a more modern van once I’ve sold the gixer if all goes to plan. Paid £800 with 6months tax thrown in, only would have paid £500-£600 for it if I wern’t so desperate but hey-ho.
I’m determined for this to be the last of the Pikey series and get something that will last me a good few years as it is becoming rather expensive to be scrapping a van every 6months or less and its beginning to grate on me having to be recovered when they go pop or bang or whatever noise they die making. Just wish I’d kept hold of Pikey II as a fall back van which I sold for £200 at the beginning of January with nothing wrong with it except no tax or rear bumper!
Lesson learned, I hope! :$
Here she is in all her rusty, clattery glory:
