I cant remember how long ago it was when buying petrol by the Gallon was banished from these shores for evermore by the European Economic Community, but keep it yourself I know of a place that still does! I used to pass a place when I was a schoolboy back in the 60’s that I thought was frozen in time, well it still is 40 years later!
Well if the pump can ONLY dispense in Gallons you WOULD have to display the price in Gallons wouldn’t you!!!
£5 14s a Gallon pre decimilation, absolutely Criminal isn’t it.
This IS a roadside pump, NOT a museum piece.

Leave Hereford on the A465 towards Abergavenny, after 5 miles turn right onto the B4348 which goes to Hay on Wye (signposted Winnal) travel a further 6 miles having gone through Kingstone following along the B4348. Turn off to the left signposted Vowchurch, the next hamlet is Turnastone (Blink and you miss it), this is where the photo’s were taken. I’ve not used those pumps myself, I do wonder if the establishment still give out GREEN SHIELD STAMPS, or even Quad Green Shield Stamps for that matter!!!! For the younger members I’m harking back to the 70’s so probably lost you there, so do an internet search on that item, EVERYBODY spent evenings licking those stamps to stick into books to redeem loyalty goods.
