    Just had the carbs off mine to give them a long overdue service. Bit of a pig to get them out as there is a bank of 4 chunky carbs with the added coolant pipework which was a modification on these bikes to overcome a “freezing” problem. The real pain is to get them back in again. No wonder there are so many with non-standard airboxes. Choke cable was easy to disconnect but the accelerator push and pull cables both need disassembling as the carbs are partly on the way out.

    And as the Haynes manuals say, “reassembly is a reverse of the above procedure”. Yeah, right. Found it easier to slip the cables out of the handlebar guide/twist grip assembly to give me the slack required to reassemble them.

    Still, they’re back in now and the old Geep fires up first crack. Not bad for a 21 year old bike.

    The GPz900R back in 1987 down in Norfolk. Also visible Thumper with his 1982 XJ650 and me (red white and blue leather jacket). My GS550E is also in the picture. Since then I have about 20 bikes as has Thumper. ID has stayed loyal to his GPz with just the odd CCM and KTM as a bit on the side!

    2006 and the GPz is joined by the Flymo!

    It will be great to see the GPz back on the road ID! Looking forward to summer 08!

    Blimey…..takes me back ! I like those bikes.
    I’ve stripped Carbs from an RD250, GPZ500, Z550 & now I’m studying Honda GX200 Kart carbs!
    They are all tricky packaging wise, but I am in total owe in respect of how well they work
    – really simple yet staggeringly complicated all at the same time!
    Very clever indeed – until just one little piece of sh#t..’

    Actually mate I had 2 Yamaha DT125s (huge fun), a Suzuki TS125 (tuned and even more fun) and 2 Honda C90s (err…..’nuff said).

    I remember the DT125s, and the TS. Wasn’t the TS tuned? I seem to recollect a rather rapid ride along the Quesslett road! However I can’t remember the C90 at all.

    2 C90s mate, both well kept secrets. I have owned 3 stepthrus in total (stepthru = C90, C70 or C50), plus 1 Honda SS50 and part-ownership of 1 Honda Melody. All instantly dismissed from memory and not talked about (until now).

    God that feels good to get it off my chest after all these years. It’s a sort of ‘Mopeds Anonymous’ thing – “Hi, my name is Dave and I’ve owned a moped”.

    Strangely enough, the stepthrus enter a whole different perspective when you realise that you can wheelie them pretty easily. Lots of revs and then slam them into gear. [:D][:D][:D]

    Incidentally ID it wasn’t a Melody, it was an Express.I think that it was me that owned the other half of it. Mrs Radar had a Melody for a bit.
