ok i have a 1986 suzuki rm125 2 stroke..i just got this biek this week it has a rebuil engine and everythign its really nice..for how old it is.
ok heres the prob,i was being really stupid and dint think about anything..i took my bike set it on its side in a trunk of a car for about 15min..we ran it completly out of gas then put it in..we took bran new gas and did put the 2 stroke oil in the gas..ok now after we took the bike out were we were goin to ride at..we put the gas in it,it started right up then we rode like 5min then it just stoped..took the plug out it was fowled..so then we took it home..we opened the top end and took all the oil out of the top part of it..then cleaned it all up nicley..it started right up then rode it for bout 10min then it quit..we are getting great spark so its not that..we checked the oil took it all out and there was antifreez in it so we put all new oil in it stillnothing..then we push started it and it started but only ran for about 2 min and quit..my friend thinks its the rings but we checked the compresion and it was really good..we took the carb out and it was shiny clean and not flooded..so if anyone here has any ideas PLZ help me cause i just got this bike ran perfect till it was tipped to the side for bout 15min..so if you know anything plz help me out..thanx cause i really dotn want to buy and put more money into my bike and it not wrk still thank you so muchYou may have put an airlock somewhere in your fuel system ad that is preventing the bike running as it should.
what ratio did you mix the two stroke/fuel?
check the air filter isnt caked in dirt
how old is the spark plug? you may have good strong spark when cold but it could break down when hotok now the bike wont start at all by kicking it..i checked the carb and everythign was spottles..the gas and the oil i had 2 gallons of gas and put i thnink 2oz or summin liek not sure my friend put the gas up and stuff..buthow could the gas make the bike not even wrk period?the air filter was pretty bad but i took it out and it stil wouldnt even start up at all..i did lose alot of oil and antifreeze when it was layed down..so i emptyed out all the antifreez and the oil..and put new oil and new water in the bike..and still not running..then when i took out the spark plug it smelt like straite gas..so i put my finger over the spark hole,kicked the bike and there was alot of gas in there is that possbile by kicking and giving it gas?cause i think that what i did..but i kiked it till it wasnt shooting gas out of the hole then i put the plug back in..the spark on the spark plug was bright like a blue color so thats good im pretty sure..but u would think the spark would ignight the gas though wouldnt you ?
i’m not a 2 stroke expert but here’s my 2p worth anyway:
I’d be worried about running a bike with antifreeze in the oil (even for 5 minutes) , when the bike stopped are you sure it didn’t sieze?
Assumming that the problem is else where – as you say that the plug was fowled.
This could occur for the following reasons (that i can think of);
If the plug was sooty – then something has made the mixture too rich
Check:
air filter blocked (with oil?) – (try running without one – but not anywhere dusty)
has the choke linkage or cable been damaged when the bike was on its side?If the plug was oily then either too much 2 stroke oil in mixture or oil getting past rings
just had another idea:
Check exhaust, I had a RD125 (a few years ago) and one of the baffles came loose and partly blocked one exhaust. The resultant increase in back pressure caused 1 cylinder to miss fire and eventually cut out.
You might have dislodged or damaged something with the bike on its side?

no theres no prob with the exaust ad the plug is great strong spark..i dotn know wutts worng with it at all the carb is clean and everything..yesterda y i went to kick it and nothing so i took the plug out there was gas in the upper top end like a oz or less of it.so i kicked it all out and then put the plug back in cleaned the plug 1st then put it in and still nothing..im like very lost now..were is the water pmp at? it woudl still run if the water pump was bad i thought,along with the gas and oil mix being bad..could that realy stop the engine from running if there is the wrong ammount of gas and oil? like even with a good spark it can just not start?
too much oil in the mix will cause it to not fire
have you stripped the carb down to make sure the floatbowl is free?
laying it on its side can cause the floatbowl pin to dislodge and jam it in one position and if if youre getting a lot of fuel in the bore it sounds like too much is getting through so that would be where i’d look next
just because you have strong spark when cold doesnt mean its the same when hotIf you are getting fuel into the cylinders when the bike is not run then I’d agree with Sid check that the float or float valve is not sicking and that the float height is set correctly.
ok thanx im going to take all the oil and gas out of the bike this weekend and then im going to check the flotbowl and everything u guys suggested and i will get back to you with the specs of everything thanx everyoen for al the help l8ers
I agree.. sounds like its flooding due to carb trouble. Be careful of assuming that a spark plug is fine cos you get a strong spark with it out of the casing.. if theres a hairline crack in the insulation that you cant see, the spark may penetrate under vibration/heat/tension. Keep a spare old one in your toolbox.
