Police offer May Day biker advice

Motorcyclists head for Hastings for the May Bank Holiday each year
Motorcyclists planning to attend a May Day event being held in Hastings on Monday are being urged by police to ride safely and not to break the law.
More than 20,000 bikers will take to the A21 for the annual bike run from Locksbottom, Kent, to the Sussex coast.

The event has been taking place for more than 40 years.

Sussex Police said its main priority was to ensure there were no fatalities or injuries on the roads, and bikers breaking the law would not be welcome.

Sgt Paul Masterson said last year two riders lost their lives on their way home from the event.

He added: “Riders must be aware that they have a long day.

“They will be more tired than the journey down and, as the flow of bikes leaving the town is spread out over a longer period than the arrival, speeds are high and drivers are less aware of the presence of bikes.”
