Anybody got any helpful (bike related) Tips?
Here’s a couple to start you off
Use Gaffa tape to attach a small torch to the inside roof of your tent – no more fumbling in the dark. Leave it there (switched off) when you pack it up.
Wrap a metre or more of Gaffa tape around a screwdriver handle in your bike toolkit, it is great for insulating bared electrical wires, holding on broken indicators/Mirrors and repairing broken zips (isn’t it Gix?). PVC tape is Ok for emergency use but will often unwind itself with age/heat from engine.
If you’ve got the tent up properly, the bikes in there with you, use the headlight!!!
A piece of reasonably thick steel (1/8 or so) cut out with a 4″ holesaw (or jigsaw) and kept under the seat is ideal for when you park in a muddy field to put under the sidestand to save the bike falling over – also saves you ripping the number plate off and using that….
I’ve always found it handy to clip my keys and gloves to a buckle on my jacket when filling up. It gives me to two hands free when I go to pay.
If on a really cold day your battery just hasnt quite got the guts to start the engine, sit the battery in warm water for 10 mins.. it’ll give it alot more “umph”
When using throw over panniers use an old towel draped over the seat and rear bodywork to help prevent stracthes. Old bar towels are ideal
When out on a very cold bike ride in winter for a bike meet say a museum or the like and you need to go the toilet for a pee at a service station and you find you hands are absolutly freezing and you cant pull down your zip or cant find your manhood[
]make sure there are no squirrels behind the sink[]Greasy hands? Got no swarfega? Use a washing tablet as a bar of soap, removes grease and lube from hands a treat![
]Read somewhere that a flat headed self tapping screw and some rubber compound makes a handy road repair for a puncture.
If you have a bike fitted with a datatool alarm (or similar), buy an Optimate charger and leave your bike battery connected to it if you bike is left used for a long period, such as winter storage. You can leave the battery connected to the bike as well.
This will avoid your bike battery being slowly drained over time, and then when you come to ride your pride and joy all that greets you is a cliock when you thumb the starter rather than the roar of your engine!A chair leg cup thats stops armchairs marking carpets is handy to carry with you to put under a sidestand when stopping on a soft surface.
A soaking wet towel left over bike after a ride removes splattered flies a treat, but want to stop the mess in the first place? Simple, a bit of baby oil on a rag, wipe over front fairing and the bugs wont stick in the first place!
Also, to get dried on bugs off visor, a wet paper towel on visor for a couple minutes after ride and they wipe away with ease.
