Has anyone ever rebuilt a floating brake disc ? I believe you can buy rebuild kits with replacement rotors and bobbins/rivets. I have been warned by the bloke who does the MOT that one of my disks on the GSXR needs to be fixed before it will pass its MOT as it has massive amounts of lateral movement (like about a 1/4 of a inch). Replacement discs are humungously expensive so if its possible to safely repair them it would be better. Obviously if its not recommended to repair them i’ll cough up the dosh.

I’d just search ebay for a set of standard ones. Theres always loads of standard discs and carriers about there.

Im doing that too mate, got outbid for a set of PFM discs a couple of days ago..they went for £150 ! Theres another pair of OEM ones ..but one of those appears to have the same problem as the one I have.

Its the movement of the rotor on the bobbins/rivets as they ‘float’ (they are floating too much you could say !) rather than any uneveness of the disc itself.

Yes I saw them but im a bit suspicious of them to be honest,id rather buy a known make. The bloke could have knocked them up in his shed out of bits of old biscuit tin.This is one of the reasons im wary, check out the ‘where’d the forks go?’ link on right hand side of this page.

And he was only going slow when his wheel came to a dead stop ! Just think what would happen if you were braking from big speed and a disc collapsed.

Having taken MadSrads advice i fired an email off to Fast Bikes ..and this is what i got back.

Hi Richy,News to us dude, none of us have ever heard of them. We all know a company called ‘Braking’ who make very good discs, but those don’t look like ’em…
If you want new discs, get them from somewhere reputable… you don’t want shite metal when you’re trying to avoid the Volvo that just pulled out on you.

Nice to know that you got a good response from your Fast Bikes email, rR (can I call you that?). Seems like they have a good sense of humour over there.
£150 is a bit steep for discs when you see what decent quality car discs go for. I know it’s a volume/supply and demand thing but even so that’s a lot of dosh. Until you come to a halt 5mm away from the aforementioned Volvo that is, that’s when you think it’s money well spent!

£150 sounds good considering you`ll pay £120+ for a rear tyre and get 3K out of them.How many miles would you get out of a disc,I bet the new one would still be on in 5 years.You can`t be too choosey about brakes.

What price your neck? People seem happy to pay £250 – £300 for a helmet and up to £2000 for leathers!
I wouldn’t try to repair discs or any major brake relayed component, especially on a high performance machine.
Buy OE or a quality, known aftermarket alternative.Good response from Fast Bikes.
