Is it normal, but about every 500 or so miles I have to top up my oil as the warning light comes on.The R1`s service history is up to date and is due for its 14k service soon, does any one know if a mid milage R1 users oil this much.Dont think there is a problem as the bike is running so sweet and still putting out 143 at the back wheel.Does any one top their oil up at a certain milage.
Take it easy out there

June 29, 2005 at 9:38 am #28788rocketRichyParticipantI had an R1 and it used to use about half a litre every thousand miles. R1’s are known for using oil, but its quite normal I believe.

June 29, 2005 at 12:02 pm #28789MadSradParticipantYep ! R1’s are renowned for burning a little oil. Changing your oil to semi synthetic should help cure the problem.

June 29, 2005 at 12:05 pm #28790MadSradParticipantSemi synth wont do any harm at all ! The fully synthetic stuff seems to get too thin and leak up through the rings and valves. Personaly I always buy semi, as long as its 10w/40 it’ll be fine and dandy.
