I read it, linked from next door hun. I can see DK going bust from this one!Even if they are a large dealer, bikers aren’t gonna stand for this, let alone the trading standards and dibble.August 23, 2006 at 11:05 pm #50699
It’s not really fair selling a knackerd bike to a lad of 17 like that, Hope he gets his money back with interest!August 24, 2006 at 9:38 am #50700
Well things are certainly hotting up now, apparently Sean and a policeman friend are going down there today, I would imagine that D K knows now as the bike has been taken for forensic examination, so we may not know the outcome (legal reasons I suppose) till everything is sorted.
I have heard quite a few horror stories from people who have dealt with the dealers in the past, but even I wouldnt have guessed they would be stupid enough to risk selling an obviously dodgy bike, they cant deny they didnt know, the bike is very wrong and even someone with very limited knowledge can see that.August 24, 2006 at 3:51 pm #50701eloquenceParticipant
The latest from the posts is that it’s not a stolen bike, but has a non-stolen 1996 frame was used to fix damage which was stamped with the number from the 2003 bike… the police are happy that there’s no charges to be brought, and that DK have offered a full refund or an exchange. It’s a result in that he can then get rid of the frankenstein bike to get something in better condition, although it does sound like something which should be passed on to trading standards, because it’s apparently not being made obvious to potential customers that such significant repairs have been made to the bike.August 24, 2006 at 4:12 pm #50702
It should have been Q plated or Scrapped and it wasn’t… even I KNOW that’s illegal!
and they claimed “not to know” ? bullshit.
Glad he’s got his money back.August 24, 2006 at 4:25 pm #50703
Its all very suss, the police dont waste their time pulling bikes apart for nothing, and one of the lads on another forum knows policeman that first got involved, his quote less than an hour ago, bearing in mind that the details you see on gs forum were sent to recipient this morning…
The copper helping Sean out is a mate of mine and decent guy at that. It is a genuine thread and the police stripped the bike for testing.
Results haven’t been published as yet but there are definetly things wrong, to what extent, I don’t know.
Also if you look thru the thread and follow some of the links, some peoples that have been stung by D K in the past set up website dedicated to warning people of troubles the dealership had caused them at the time, hell I knew to stay away from the cowboys long before this instance. What ever the story with this particular bike, it dont look like its the first and if DK carry on the net will close in.August 24, 2006 at 4:51 pm #50704
From BCF –
The wait is over!!
The bike has a 1996 frame with the numbers from the 2003 bike stamped into it. This stamp error was overlooked by D&K and the police are satisfied that there are NO charges to be brought.
The frame from the 1996 bike was NOT stolen!!
The bike should have been SVA tested not mot’d and it should have been put onto a ‘Q’ registration or scrapped.
Quote from D&K motorcycles manager Mr Neesam:
“I was unaware that the bike was put together in this manner however i was aware that it had been damage repaired.
If Mr Holt wishes to have a refund we will be happy to do so, if he wishes to choose another bike then he is welcome to come and choose a replacement.”
Mr Neesam & Mr Wilson from D&K were very keen to resolve this matter with a minimum of hassle.
How on earth a major dealer can miss summat like this is beyond me, a few photos on a forum and it was apparent to most that the bike was dodgy, how can untrained eyes on pictures pic up what professionals missed?August 24, 2006 at 6:31 pm #50705
That’s what I thought Gix.
If a Dealer can’t tell a bike is THAT f**ked over then I wouldn’t trust their ability to fix, or even sell bikes anyway, nevermind buy from them!
on the otherhand if they ARe being underhanded (let’s face it, they are) again I wouldn’t buy from them.
Either way they’re f**ked and rightly so!
