As well as my Yamahas I also run an old and rather unfashionable Lotus Excel SE. I love the old crate and was pleased last week when it passed the MOT with virtually no expense. To treat the old girl I took it up to the charming Shelsley Walsh Breakfast Club. This is held at the famous hill climb venue only 15 miles or so from where I live, nestled in the beautiful rolling hills of rural Worcestershire.
The Excel revelled in the brief thrash along some fun roads…she has 180bhp on tap and a taut, well controlled chassis and hustling the car along typically English back roads and flicking through its slick gearshift is great fun if not quite as involving as riding a really quick bike.

Anyway once there there was a interesting collection of cars on show, brought along by some like minded owners. Three bikes that are used to run up the hill were also on display and they looked impressive pieces of kit.

I enjoyed a heartl ‘light-salad’ and then rounded off a pleasurable visit by walking the hill. It is a tight and twisty strip of tarmac and I would love to attack it anger in either the Excel or one of the bikes.

    A few pics:

Pretty specialised rubber caught my eye

As did the wheels and brakes

This older RM based Suzuki 2 stroke looked very purposeful, I was itching for a go or even just to hear it run

There was an interesting spectrum of ages represented

The track is narrow, and even on a grey and overcast its setting is stunning…England at its’ best

An enjoyable morning, even if I was confined to four wheels!

How the hell you got away with going there on Mothers’ Day I’ll never know, but nice pics. Will join you on the next one.

Those KTM tyres look like nothing I’ve ever seen before!

It is still something I am considering, but life keeps getting in the way!
