ParticipantLOL, power not being a consideration, I was thinking about other the aspects of them like the way they would sound and would they be dangerous in traffic as somebody might not know you’re coming… (not they pay much attention now!)

ModeratorI would ride a bike with an alternative powere source, especially for town amd commuting work. If it meant the the resources for sports bikes lasted longer, it has to be a good idea! Fossil fuels will run out, although not as soon as many of the harbingers of doom would have us believe. However it is going to get seriously expensive and this could push the market for alternatives forward. If somebody can find another fuel for the Internal combustion engine that is cheap and plentiful and use the existing supply infrastructure then they will be on to huge discovery. Brazil used a sugar kane based fuel for many years, and i read yesterday that the Candadians are looking into refining oil from naturally ocurring sand sludge.
For now I will stick to unleaded, but interesting develoments will start happeningg in about a decade or so…

ParticipantAccording to report on the BBC newsite that car makers are holding back the development of alternative powered transport… probably in collusion with the oil companies.
January 28, 2006 at 12:47 pm #43539Radar
ModeratorI don’t think they are holding back, Toyota and Honda have got the drop on the big American companies and the Europeans with Hybrids.
Sales will rise
Hybrid techology is probably too heavy and cumbersome for sports bikes for now.
I will watch developments with interest

ParticipantI do wonder if they can ever match the performance of petrol fuel bikes in acceleration.
January 28, 2006 at 8:10 pm #43541sid
Participantdidnt someone invent a hydrogen powered engine a few years ago but one of the oil companies bought the rights to it so it couldnt be produced?
