Got a bit bored in my lunch break so i punched the “Celebrity bike accidents” into Google:
Ewan McGregor is a proper biker, with tens of thousands of riding miles under his belt.
But his parents have always needed some convincing. So a couple of years ago he borrowed a Honda Blackbird from a shop and invited his dad out for a ride, just prove how safe he was.
It didn’t go entirely to plan – a few miles into their trip and the Hollywood heartthrob hit a patch of diesel and went down.
McGregor was unharmed but the bike was a mess. He said: “It was ruined. The whole thing was a nighmare.”
George Clooney’s rugged good look s make him pretty unmistakable to most people.
Not 27-year-old Albert Sciancalepore, though.
He mistook the star of ‘Solaris’ (and his eight-foot long Harley) for a side-road and ploughed into the celebrity biker and his girlfriend, cracking one of Clooney’s ribs and breaking her foot.
“It wasn’t my fault”, said Sciancalepore, “they just came out of nowhere.”
Reformed boozer, Mr. Nicole Kidman and country singer Keith Urban actually decided to deliberately crash his own bike while being chased by the paparazzi.
The 39-year-old said he’d done it “to maintain his privacy”.
Urban said: “While out riding to an Alcoholics Anonymous meeting, a time when my privacy is especially important to me, I felt myself being pursued.
“I sped up, and, in an effort to elude an oncoming car which was making an illegal U-turn, saw no choice but to drop my bike”.
You could’ve put the brakes on, Keith.
Heavy metal hero Ozzy Osbourne had a narrow squeak after hitting a tree while riding his quad bike.
The rock star supreme broke eight ribs and his collarbone in the accident in 2003.
But despite his remarkable fight back to full health there’s an even more deadly hazard on the horizon – apparently Amy Winehouse wants Ozzy to give her a ride on the bike.
Arnold Schwarzenegger vowed he’d be back on bikes after a motorist accidentally knocked him off his Harley.
The Governator said doctors had advised him to avoid attending events and speaking for at least three days.
“My wife said make it seven,” Schwarzenegger quipped.
It turned out the joke was on him – it later emerged the big man had never bothered to get his bike licence…
‘Jackass’ star Johnny Knoxville is used to pain. His show specialises in crazy stunts that often involve the hosts suffering for their art.
However, his latest prank left the 36-year-old American actor bleeding and sore in a very private place.
As he attemtped to back-flip a motorcycle for a TV programme he mis-timed his run and in the resulting crash (fellas, look away now), almost tore off his testicles.
He later said from hospital: “I’ve just got back from Oklahoma where I was shooting Mat Hoffman’s tribute to Evel Knievel. I had a ball, too, even though I almost lost my own balls in the process!
“I don’t want to give too much away because it doesn’t air until February 23, but let’s just say before I did a back-flip on a motorcycle I should have learned how to ride one first.
“I have to go now. I have to empty the piss bag on my leg that I have to wear for the next two weeks until my torn urethra heals.”
Ouch.
In 2004 a back-flip attempt also went painfully wrong for stunt veteran Mike Metzger an event in Switzerland.
The resulting crash cost him a testicle when the bike’s footpeg caught him in the groin.
Undeterred, the American tough guy came back stronger than ever – this is him in 2006 back-flipping across the fountains outside Caesar’s Palace, Las Vegas – a record-breaking jump of 125 feet.
Glamorous airhead Kimberly Stewart bit the dust when she and pal Paris Hilton turned up at a party on choppers for a promotion wheeze in 2003.
Displaying as undestanding of the dynamics of clutch control as she does of thermal dynamics, La Stewart engaged first, pulled the clutch in, revved the engine, let the clutch out and screamed off the stage before crashing in a heap at the feet of the world’s press.
