    They got around the leaner capacity rule at the time. A sidecar or three wheeler car had no capacity limit so bolting one of these onto a big bike and tying on your L plates meant you could legally ride a big bike!

    I remember seeing one bolted to a Suzuki RG250, although in theory it allowed you to ride any size bike on L plates!

    I also seem to remember there was a tradesman version that could accommodate tools and such like

    A couple of my mates had RD350 powervalves (Kenny Roberts replicas) with these. I remember riding pillion and having to kick it back down because they used to stick up.

    I think the loop hole in the law was closed pretty quickly and they faded out of use after only a couple of years

    I remember seeing them in my yoof, odd that folk would fit these rather than take a test tho!

    Yeah, remember them. Crazy because the bike test wasn’t that difficult back then anyway.
