I have been to Snetterton many times and the bomb hole is, as Cookeye says, a corner around the remains of a bomb crater. It was a base used by American B-17 Flying Fortress bombers in WW2 and I think the bomb was actually American and not German. Either on a dump or from a crash landed plane coming back from a mission.
