Just want to share with someone, an odd experience I had with a policeman a while ago that’s still playing on my mind to this day. Sorry for the length

The family and I were off in the car one Saturday morning. Waiting to pull out of our driveway, I waited for one car on the right go by to pass a parked van on my left that was obscuring the view to my left. The road being as it is, I thought no one could squeeze past the two vehicles and proceeded to cautiously pull out to turn right. A car had decided to squeeze past them and I braked, as did he. It was a couple of police people in an unmarked car, not traffic police, but beat police as I think they’re referred too. Anyway, he waves me on and my wife acknowledged with a thank you wave.

We carried on down the road, across a dual carriage way with a central reservation and along the road on the other side. Half a mile further on, the police car that had been followed us flashed his lights. I took it as a sign to pull in which I did. A policeman get out, first asks if I was OK and then starts to complain that I smirked at him while I was waiting at the dual carriage way central reservation to complete the junction negotiation. Apparently he had pulled along side me at that point. I hadn’t noticed as my attention was on checking the road was clear before crossing it.

Whether he had mistaken to the bobbing of my head to check the blind spot created by the front door post, they’re rather thick on the Astra, I don’t know, but I assured him I had not. I had not even made eye contact at the in time in question. The guy went on for quite a bit about how he didn’t appreciate me taking the p*ss when he let me off for pulling out in front of him and how I drove on the right hand side of the carriageway afterwards (the left side was chocker a block with park cars incidentally on a residential road and there was no oncoming traffic). I did not appreciate his language as I had the children in the car. He also mentioned that I did not gesture a thanks when he waved me on. I pointed out that my wife had. At which point, he said it was the driver’s responsibility to do that. I thought it was a courtesy, not a requirement by law and proper control of the car was more important. He mentioned as an example, that if my wife put up two fingers, it would be me that was liable. A suggestion that I found highly offensive with respect to my wife’s character, especially as she was in earshot. He then proceeded to go on for half an hour about the alleged smirking. Considering that my older brother had cancer, my dad had just been diagnosed with terminal cancer, been told that my job was in danger the day before and just made a prat of myself pulling out in front of a police car, the last they I felt like doing was smirking. The whole affair was getting increasingly surreal and I had begun to think I stepped into the twiglet zone. I dunno, perhaps he was having a bad day.

    Oh my god, what aw**ker!!

Seems like one of these, new breed of coppers that are basically self important, better than you cos I have a badge, busy bodies.

I wouldn’t worry too much about it mate, just dismiss him as being a c**t with nothing better to do.

    Chin up mate :)

I have been pulled over 20 times by the plod, nearly all before I was 21. Some were OK, some were a litle odd. We need them, but sometimes I do despair. In your case you would think that they had better things to do with their time!

after my little run in with a jumped up little scrote copper why does this story not surprise me?????????
Have had dealings with the police plenty of times in the past, and my experiences with them has left me with very little faith in the “serve and protect” force in this country.[V]

I was pulled a couple of weeks after getting my ZX7R – luckily – because it was still all standard then – no nice pipe or anything! I was on my way to Sherburn Milkbar – and I’d been flashed plenty before I saw them – so I was bang on the speed limit – no problems there.

When I pulled over I asked them why they’d stopped me – they said they were checking for stolen bikes – they had a scanner for them DataTag thingies.

They asked me ‘Have you nicked this? Or fitted any nicked bits?’. I obviously said no and they said far enough and didn’t scan any part of my bike!! BUT while one was talking to me, the other was checking every aspect of my bike – it was simply a spot-check to hastle bikers going to Sherburn.

On the other hand – they’re not all bad.

I was coming home once on my ZX6R, and I’d been caught out in a heavy storm. I was wet through and just wanted to get home. Traffic was heavy so I was filtering. Unforuntately I was filtering on double-whites – occasionally crossing them where required – straight past a marked up police car (I know – how did I NOT see him!).

They pulled me (suprise, suprise) and started to write out my fixed pentalty. Now at this point I was on 9 points – so another 3 was a ban. I wasn’t happy. They saw I wasn’t happy and asked how many points I had. When I told them – the copper writing the ticket said the wonderful words: ‘I must be going soft!’ – and tore up the ticket!!!

They then proceded to give me a BIG lecture on why I shouldn’t cross white lines – which I was more than happy to listen to and ‘yes sir, no sir’ to as I knew I was getting away with it!!

    Nice coppers!

Yeah mate, because a thief would obviously admit to having stolen goods! lol

I don’t know sometimes it is beggars’ belief at hearing how inept some of these coppers are at their job.

I got stopped last year for NEARLY running a red light.

I was filtering down a queue at a set of traffic lights, as I reached the front the lights changed and I went through (well under the speed limit). There was a marked car at the front of the queue who pulled me over and when I asked why he had stopped me said I had “nearly” run a red light!
